Mike decided to become a physiotherapist after tearing his ACL while playing soccer at the age of 21. Working closely with his physiotherapist, he was sold on Physio as a career path. Dean grew up in Port Coquitlam where he fell in love with the outdoors, mountain biking in summer and snowboarding in winter amongst other activities. He had a number of injuries while he was young which sparked his interest in physiotherapy. This led him to complete his Bachelors of Kinesiology at Simon Fraser University with a concentration in Active Health and Rehabilitation. He then went on to work as a Kinesiologist, where he helped clients who had been in work and motor vehicle accidents. After a couple of years of working in rehab, he knew that he could help clients more if he became a physiotherapist. So, he moved to Australia where he completed his Masters of Physiotherapy at the University of Sydney. From there, he moved north to the Gold Coast where he planned to stay one year but ended up staying for six. The lure of the sunshine and surf made it hard to leave, but eventually he moved back to the Lower Mainland with his wife to be closer to family and friends as they started a family.
While working in Australia, he progressed his skills by working in a one-on-one setting. He uses movement and postural analysis to help figure out the root cause of patients concerns. This helps him create an individualized exercise/rehab program to address these issues and help prevent future issues from occurring. He is great at communicating, educating and helping clients understand their issue and what they can do to help their cause. He also utilizes manual therapy including specific techniques for headaches and migraines that he learned in Australia where he helped start up the Gold Coast Headache Clinic. He is trained and qualified in IMS/Dry Needling, which he first learned overseas when he first graduated.

Shockwave therapy opens the door to recovery from those old or persistent ailments. Kickstarting your body’s metabolism through the use of safe, low-energy acoustic waves, it’s a non-invasive solution that encourages your body’s circulatory processes to naturally regenerate damaged tissue.
That’s the magic of shockwave therapy – since it relies on your body’s own healing abilities, it’s free from the limitations (and side effects!) of medicine-based treatments. And that’s also why it’s so effective at treating a range of conditions.
Before we can treat your pain, we need to understand the condition of your body and what your health concerns are. That happens through a detailed 40-minute initial session where one of our physiotherapists or chiropractors will precisely identify which muscles, joints, or ligaments need to be treated.
40-minute initial assessment session includes:
Follow-up treatment is quick and easy, taking 20 minutes in total.
Plus, as a non-invasive procedure, it doesn’t involve taking any painkillers or anesthetics, so you’re free to drive yourself to and from your sessions. When you arrive, your care provider will check in with you to see how your recovery is progressing, then you’ll receive about 5 minutes of direct shockwave treatment.
A thin layer of gel will be applied to your skin, then your care provider will gently use a shockwave therapy device – similar to a high-tech wand – to treat the identified area.
Some mild discomfort is normal, but if it’s more than you can handle, the level of intensity can be adjusted to something that you feel is more manageable.
Each person’s body responds differently to treatment, but in general shockwave therapy is most effective when it’s applied once per week for a period of 3 to 6 weeks.
It’s not a magic wand. But you might believe it is after your treatment!
